The back overlays the "Never Quit" quote in bold diagonal yellow type directly across a detailed portrait silhouette of Lt. Murphy in charcoal. The words and the figure become one composition. The stone garment holds the yellow and charcoal together without muddying either.

Results

Running the quote across the portrait rather than below it was the right call. It makes the words feel like they belong to the man rather than being about him.
