JB Mouton 4
We Built Dat St. Pius Edition T Shirts
Lafayette, Louisiana
Long before JB Mouton helped raise a 33,000-square-foot church in Lafayette, the company’s building story started with a mule named Blue. In 1915, John Berchman Mouton used his father’s team to dig foundations and build houses around a much smaller Lafayette, working from a garage office near the cathedral.
The craft moved through his sons William and Francis, then grandson Manning “Bozo” Billeaud and great-grandson Robert “Popie” Billeaud. Stuart Billeaud later joined as the fifth generation, extending a family line that has grown alongside Acadiana’s schools, churches, medical buildings and civic landmarks.
St. Pius X fits that long arc. Parishioners had discussed a larger church since 2008, eventually funding a French- and Spanish-influenced building shaped by the region’s Acadian roots. Completed in 2017, it was Lafayette’s first newly built Catholic church since 1999. The “WE BUILT DAT” shirt marks both that community milestone and another chapter in a century-old family trade.
We paired a heather gray tee with stark black church imagery and bold “WE BUILT DAT” type, then listed the project team on back as a crew keepsake.
